New Abilities for Paladins in Cataclysm

As with all classes, Cataclysm has brought significant changes to Paladins. There are completely new talent trees, new abilities and changes to the mechanics of how you play this character. Stop to consider that Cataclysm is a complete makeover for the game as every aspect is being changed in one way or another. Many of the extras such as Defense, Armor Penetration, Spell Power and Block have been taken away just as fast as they came.

One of the first changes you will notice is that more races can become Paladins, namely Taurens. Despite the changes that are going to restore Warriors to the top of the Tank pecking order, Pally tanks are still going to be very popular. The first thing that you will see is that Pally get three new abilities for crowd control, defense and healing.  At level 81 you have Blinding Shield that is used for crowd control as it is an AoE damage ability that also blinds all enemies within range.

At level 83 you have Healing Hands, this new healing spell is a short range AoE heal that will heal all party members within its radius and allows the Paladin to cast another heal spell while it is still active. Talk about mass heals; this is something that Paladins have been waiting for, for a long time. Finally at level 85 you have Guardian of Ancient Kings; Pallys get a helping hand with this spell. It summons a winged guardian of light that is armed with a massive sword.

If you are a Healadin, your helper will heal the person in your party with the lowest health. For the Retadin, the guardian will do damage to your enemy and finally if you are Prot Pally it will absorb damage for you. This is the ultimate spell as like the other summoned pets it can make a huge difference in long fights, the three minute cooldown may not be a problem if the fight is too long as you can cast it at the start of the fight and again as it cools down.

Each of these new abilities will definitely give the Paladin some serious help in both PvE and PvP scenarios. The most important part is that you need to set up your talent trees very carefully and you are going to have to learn how to play your Paladin again as he is going to be a lot more like he was in Vanilla WoW.

With Cataclysm on the shelves, Dan has been spending hours each week looking into what makes every character hum in the new expansion. Learn what he and thousands of others have discovered at www.CataclysmSecrets.com.
